We are excited to invite you to the re-launch of the Marine Research Plymouth ECR Network, with a speed networking and social event hosted at the Marine Biological Association. The event is open to all marine early career researchers.
Please join us for an evening of informal networking and socialising, with arrivals from 5:15 pm for a 5:30 pm start. The event will begin with a short presentation about the network, an opportunity to suggest the future role of the ECR network, and two 14-minute sessions of speed networking, before finishing with informal drinks and nibbles.
For those who aren’t familiar, speed networking is a structured way to network that aims to reduce the awkwardness of approaching strangers and help break the ice when meeting new researchers. Participants will talk one-to-one for two minutes in total: 30 seconds each for an ‘elevator-style’ introduction, followed by one minute of open conversation, before the group rotates. There will be an opportunity to meet seven new people in each 14-minute rotation, with a break in the middle for refreshments and more informal conversations.
After the organised part of the evening, there will be an opportunity to continue conversations more informally at the MBA and potentially at the pub, if there is interest.
The event is free to attend; however, we ask that you register using the link below to reserve your space and inform us of any dietary requirements. The room has a capacity of 60 people, so please cancel your registration if you are unable to attend, as we anticipate that the event will be fully booked.
The deadline to register is 6 November 2026. We look forward to seeing you there!
