Travel Information

Easy access, wherever you are
Our location – about halfway between London and Edinburgh – puts us within pretty convenient distance of most parts of the UK. Hull’s road, rail, air and sea links are so good that visitors can easily get to us from all over the country, and in fact from all over the world.

By train

There are regular direct trains from London, taking as little as two and a half hours from King’s Cross, as well as fast, direct access from northern England and Scotland, while destinations to the west are also well connected via the TransPennine service. Once you reach Hull Paragon Interchange, it’s easy to get a taxi or hop on a bus to campus (see our guide to the buses in Hull below.)

This year we're pleased to announce Hull Trains as a sponsor of the MBA Postgraduate Conference, who are offering FREE train travel to delegates and speakers.

  • FREE tickets from London King's Cross (on the 11:48 22nd April and the 07:27 23rd April) to Hull, and returning from Hull to London King's Cross (17:08 and 19:08 on 25th April)
  • FREE day return train tickets from London to Hull

If you would like to book a free ticket, please email MBA-2025conference@hull.ac.uk with your details and train preference and a member of the Organising Committee will be pleased to help.

Hull Trains is an award winning, open-access train operator running up to 94 direct services a week between Hull and London King’s Cross with almost 40,000 seats available every week. Book direct for great value fares and no booking fees at www.hulltrains.co.uk

By car

Hull is extremely accessible by car. It’s just two and half hours from major cities like Newcastle and Birmingham. Manchester is less than two hours away, and you can drive to Leeds or Sheffield in just over an hour. Our postcodes and //what3words addresses are:

Main Entrance HU6 7RU

By coach

Coaches to Hull are available via National Express and link with other national and European services. The coach terminal is right next to the rail station. Coaches to London terminate at Victoria Station.

From overseas

If you’re coming from further afield, daily ferries connect Hull to the Netherlands, while Humberside Airport links to the world via Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Manchester and Leeds-Bradford airports can also be reached easily from here.

Bus information

Conveniently, the Hull Paragon Interchange has both our bus and railway stations all under one roof (plus a Greggs and a Starbucks) so travelling between the station and the University is super easy.

We have two main bus companies which have separate apps:

  1. EY Buses
  2. Stagecoach

We’d recommend having both apps so you can check the schedules and the door number in the bus station. Both companies accept contactless, cash and eTickets (on the apps). If you buy a day or week ticket, please be aware that you’ll only be able to use it on the buses for that company only. However, most services run very regularly so unless you’re staying on the outskirts of Hull, you’ll never be waiting more than 30 minutes for a bus from either company.

We have a few tips for bus travel in Hull:

  • Most buses run until around 11pm.
  • The 104 (EYMS) and 5 (Stagecoach) buses share more-or-less the same route from the interchange to the University via Princes/Newland avenue and vice versa so these will be your best options.
  • The 104 usually runs every 30 minutes but the 5 is usually every 5 minutes.
  • Both buses stop at the east side of the University, on Cranbrook Avenue.
  • Their routes are exactly the same until they get into town where they usually follow the same route down Prospect Street, past Queens Gardens and finally through Carr Lane and round to the Interchange however sometimes they’ll skip this end route and go straight from Prospect street, down Brook Street and immediately to the Interchange so just be aware to check before you travel or just get off at Prospect street to save the walk from the Interchange.
  • The 105 (EYMS) goes from the Interchange to the south side of the University via Beverley road and vice versa.
  • The 105 usually runs every 30 minutes.
