*Master and PhD students are eligible to join the Post Graduate membership category, to benefit from professional standing at significantly reduced rate (same fee as Student membership).

This membership category is for undergraduates studying marine biology or a related subject and registered in University education. If you are a postgraduate student, you can access the Professional Postgraduate membership category.

The title of Fellow of the Marine Biological Association, FMBA, was first awarded in 2014, following granting of a Royal Charter to the Marine Biological Association. Under 18 and love marine biology? Become a Young Marine Biologist!

Our popular ‘YMB’ category is aimed at younger marine enthusiasts who are under 18 and keen to learn more about the fascinating world of our oceans and coastlines.

Benefits include:
  • Hear of the latest news in marine biology research through our quarterly magazine, with your online The Marine Biologist. Catch up on past issues online and the free back-issue in your welcome pack. The magazine is available digitally to all Young Marine Biologists. Hard copies can be added to the Membership for an additional cost. 
  • The YMB Community group brings together the YMBs for chat, sharing, fun and activities such as prize-winning photography competitions.
  • The Resource and Learning Zone is full of interesting webinars from scientists in the field.  You’ll also find recordings from previous speakers, careers information, summit videos & marine puzzles.

  • We are busy reviewing and developing new events for our Young Marine Biologists which we will share in your Bulletins.
