The conference will be held at the Marine Biological Association, Plymouth, UK, PL1 2PB. Attendees can enjoy the scenic beauty and cultural heritage of Britain's Ocean City.

Travel Information

Plymouth has good road, rail, air and sea links enabling visitors to easily get to us from all over the country, and in fact from all over the world.

By Train

There are regular direct trains from London Paddington to Plymouth taking around 3 hours. CrossCountry and Great Western Railway (GWR) run frequent services to Plymouth. The main train station in Plymouth is Plymouth railway station. Check out live arrivals and station facilities for Plymouth railway station.

Once you reach Plymouth station it is a short walk to the MBA or you can easily catch a bus or a taxi.

Discounted conference fares are available for train travel. GWR are currently updating their system and will provide details closer to the event (June 2025)

By Car

Plymouth is easily accessible by car. It’s just over 2 hours from Bristol and only around 1 hours from Exeter. Our postcode and //what3words addresses are:

Please note there is no parking available at the MBA itself. There is pay and display parking on the streets surrounding the MBA, in the nearby Elphinstone Car park  or Theatre Royal Car Park

By Coach

Plymouth is also served by several coach companies from across the UK. Plymouth Coach Station is based in the city centre (PL1 1JF) and surrounded by facilities and city centre amenities. The station has parking, a cafe, a newsagent, mobile device charging points, and more.

The station is superbly located for further travel across Plymouth and beyond, with bus, taxi and ferry links all nearby and it is a gentle 20-minute walk from the MBA.

National Express offers coach travel from London in around 5.5 hours and Bristol in just under 3 hours.

From Overseas

If you are coming from further afield, ferries connect Plymouth to Roscoff and Santander.

Airports in Exeter and Bristol offer a range of domestic and international connections, London Heathrow also offers extensive options and connections onwards.

Bus information

Plymouth city bus offers routes and timetables covering most of Plymouth city centre and beyond. The War memorial S bound stop for service 25, City centre to Plymouth Hoe, is located right outside the main entrance of the MBA.

Accommodation and Food 

Is accomodation included in the conference fee?

Accommodation is not included in the registration fee. A large number of hotels and B&Bs can be found on Plymouth Hoe in close proximity to the MBA. For a full list of accommodation options in Plymouth, click here.

A discounted accomodation rate is available for this event at Leonardo Hotel Plymouth. The rate is £110 per room per night for Bed and Breakfast inc VAT.

Are meals provided?

Lunch and evening dinner will be provided for each day of the conference, along with tea/coffee during each day of the conference.

What dietary restrictions are being catered for?

When booking you will be asked to provide any dietary needs. It is essential that you complete this thoroughly to enable us to cater for any specific dietary needs you may have.

Travel bursaries

We aim to offer travel bursaries to support early career researchers attending the Advances in Coccolithophore Research meeting. Please let us know if you wish to be considered for a travel bursary when registering for the conference.

In addition, the MBA offers a number of student Member bursaries for conference attendance.
